SEH Emergency Equine Surgery/Anaesthesia Job Description 2017
The Scone Equine Hospital’s surgical facility is seeking an equine surgeon and anaesthetist to assist with our after-hours service from early September to early December 2017. The role would involve being “on-call” Sunday – Thursday from 5.00pm to 8.00am.
It would include helping to perform the elective procedures from 5:00pm and then emergency surgical procedures as they are admitted. The surgeon and anaesthetist would be supported by an intern, surgical nurses and a senior surgeon would be available for assistance with cases and client communication as needed. They would also be assisted by medicine specialists from our Intensive Care Hospital. The emergency case load would largely involve colic and reproductive emergencies.
In 2016 we performed 16 colic surgeries, 8 reproductive emergencies (NB Caesarians and Assisted Delivery) and 15 other emergency procedures during the proposed hours of employment. Elective procedures were also performed during the proposed hours of employment with the elective case load usually being completed by 7:00pm in the height of the stud season.
The applicants would need to be proficient at performing the proposed case load, although specialist qualification is not required. The applicants would need to be able to register with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW and obtain a short-term VISA.
Base Salary: $2000-2500 AUS per week depending on experience, Travel allowance, Car and Accommodation also provided.
