The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a clinical track faculty position in small animal orthopedic surgery. An applicant must hold a DVM or equivalent veterinary degree and must be a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS), or must have completed an ACVS approved residency and have met the requirements to take the corresponding board exam. Applicants must be licensed or eligible for regular or special licenses to practice veterinary medicine in Texas.
The successful candidate will devote up to 75% time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Clinical duties and the responsibility for continued development of the orthopedic service will be shared with 3 other orthopedic surgeons. Clinical responsibilities will include primary management of orthopedic surgical cases, instruction of veterinary students, mentorship of interns and surgical residents, and participation in after-hours surgical emergency coverage. The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching, the development of expertise with novel surgical procedures, participation in clinical trials, and academic service.
The ideal applicant will possess basic proficiency in stifle, elbow, and shoulder arthroscopy, minimally invasive fracture repair, treatment of complex angular limb deformities, and exposure to current total joint replacement techniques. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with over 45 faculty members in the small animal hospital, and 35 interns and residents in the other medical and surgical services in the department.
The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a spacious facility with sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment, including two modern digital radiography suites equipped with PACS image storage, eFilm and OrthoviewVet templating software, complete arthroscopy capabilities, two intraoperative fluoroscopy units, and a 40 slice CT and 3T MRI onsite. In addition, nuclear scintigraphy, force-plate and kinematic gait analysis, and both biomechanics and regenerative medicine laboratories are available to facilitate development of novel procedures and treatments. The hospital maintains Mimics and Echopixel licenses for three-dimensional reconstruction and subsequent 3D model printing. The OR is equipped with a wide array of implant systems including Synthes LCP plates (and other locking systems), Biomedtrix I-Loc interlocking nails, and IMEX linear and circular external skeletal fixation sets.
