Kennebec Veterinary Services, Inc. is a mixed animal practice. Our practice is located adjacent to I-95 in central Maine, about halfway between Portland and Bangor, each about 1 hours drive. Based on revenue, our practice is 65% small animal (primarily dogs and cats) and 35% large animal (of which 90% is dairy). Our well equipped 4,400 square foot small animal hospital was built in 2005 and the core members of the staff have been here for years and years, making us like family. We have complete in-house laboratory, separate digital radiology and surgery suites, 3 outpatient exam rooms, separate isolation, feline and canine wards, including indoor dog runs, and a spacious treatment area with dedicated dental procedure area.
We are full service small animal hospital, handling routine outpatient appointments to complex surgical cases, but aren't ashamed to send clients to referral centers when appropriate. Our large animal business is 100% ambulatory, using full sized PortaVet equipped trucks. Our dairy client's farms range in size from 15 to about 1300 head. We also see a variety of small /hobby farms with beef, camelids, goats and sheep. We also have a growing equine business, mostly pleasure horses. Our large animal service covers an approxiamte 35 mile radius to the clinic which serves as home base for the large animal portion of the business. We do a considerable amount of reproductive work, and many of our clients are on a routine schedule of herd health visits, ranging from weekly to monthly. As with our small animal business, we offer a complete range of services to our dairy clients, from reproduction, preventive medicine, performance troubleshooting, milk quaility to emergency services.
The doctors traditionally all have equally shared duties in both the small and large animal portions of the business, with a rotating schedule. We also all equally share coverage of night and weekend emergency duties. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to join the rotation and handle both large and small animal duties, however, there is flexibility in the amount of each, depending on desires or interest. Veterinarians are paid straight salary, plus a percentage of emergency calls covered. Health insurance, SIMPLE IRA, paid continuing education, paid vacation, AVMA and Maine VMA dues, and more are all included in the total compensation package.
The Oakland-Waterville area is a local service center for the surrounding communities. We are only a few miles from 3 colleges, 2 hospitals, many local and national business and several major industrial operations which provide an excellent client base. Oakland is about an hours drive to the beautiful Maine coast, the mountains (great skiing) and two metropolitan areas (Portland and Bangor) and about 15 minutes north of Augusta, the state capitol. We are adjacent to numerous lakes, which provide excellent recreation, and attract vacationers from all across the country. We look forward to hearing from you if you are interested in joining a busy, and well respected mixed animal practice.
