Being a Team player: Our doctors do not work alone; there is generally a 3:1 ratio of veterinary assistants and technicians assigned to each doctor. Additionally, each hospital is a multiple veterinarian practice, meaning that there will be plentiful opportunities for consults and analysis. A strong willingness to share skills and knowledge with your peers, and to appreciate positive mentorship from seasoned professionals, will go a long way in ensuring a team will always support your work.
Excelling in communication skills, both to team members and clients. This will take the form of detailed doctor's notes to assist other veterinarians in caring for our clients, discussing options with clients and listening to their needs, and in communicating your needs to the team that is supporting you.
Having a warm personality, a sense of humor, and a positive outlook that you can make a unique difference helps tremendously in staying above day to day frustrations, stresses, and avoiding burnout. The advantage of working for an established private practice is that we're big enough to shoulder the load but small enough to notice you -- stand out!
A sense of pride in your work and an eagerness to learn more about perfecting your craft
Enjoying being part of the the larger veterinary community, and supporting our outreach efforts to rescue and rehabilitation groups that we partner with.
Additional Salary Information: Base salary is commensurate with experience. All doctors can earn productivity bonuses based on 20% of their sales and services, which can allow for a much higher annual salary than base. In addition, the hospital pays for Virginia and DEA licenses, VIN, as well as the NVVMA dues that has 4 membership dinner meetings annually. Other benefits include up to a 5% match on 401k, generous insurance packages, and continuing education stipends.
About Fort Hunt Animal Hospital
Our facilities are located in the Northern Virginia region and have been operating and updated since 1977 with the same owner family. Because we take pride in training new graduates to work with our established professionals, applicants with a willingness to share knowledge and seek professional growth are some of the traits that would make a an excellent match for our team of doctors, licensed technicians, and staff in a dynamic working environment. Each of the facilities are unique in terms of layout and personality, but all are modernized, paperless practices with in-house laboratory equipment (CBC, chemistry, and electrolyte units), state of the art dental equipment (IM3), tonopens, ultrasound, surgical laser, therapeutic cold laser, acupuncture, endoscopy, digital dental x-ray units, and digital general x-ray. In addition, our facilities are each AAHA certified and Fear Free silver status, with those practice ideals becoming our standard of care. Although each doctor is normally based in only one hospital, the opportunity exists to visit and be a part of the sister hospital team when cases or procedures are valuable for learning and/or of special interest, particularly for... exotic species. Please visit our websites to learn more about our sister facilities and start the application process!
