Veterinary Associates Equine and Farm is an equine general and referral practice located in Karaka, South Auckland, New Zealand. We are seeking an enthusiastic veterinarian with expertise in equine reproduction, for a position that would have long-term prospects for the right person. The ideal candidate will be board-certified or board-eligible by the American College of Theriogenologists and/or the European College of Animal Reproduction, or a fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (FANZCVS in Equine Reproduction); however, all candidates with experience in equine reproductive medicine will be strongly considered.
Vet Associates is heavily involved in all types of equine pursuits and has a large surgical, medical and reproductive caseload, providing a tremendous variety of work. The successful candidate will share responsibility for all stud work on both a Thoroughbred stud farm and a Standardbred stud farm. In addition, she or he will have an opportunity to be involved with our pleasure horse clientele. Weekend emergency duties are shared between seven veterinarians. Attendance at race days and performance horse events may also be required from time to time.
This is an opportunity to work with a dedicated team of twelve veterinarians in a full-service equine ambulatory and referral practice. Veterinaries on staff include a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, a Diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine, and a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Equine Medicine. If not already certified, the successful candidate would be encouraged to study for membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.
The successful candidate will have a positive outlook, attention to detail, and wish to work in a supportive team environment while pursuing her or his experience in equine reproductive medicine. All applicants will be considered, and an enthusiastic person with a great attitude may be the right candidate regardless of work experience.
The work environment is attractive; our custom-built hospital is only seven years old and is well equipped with the latest equine medical technology. This includes a fully equipped surgical suite, dynamic endoscopy, as well as the usual digital radiography, ultrasound machines, dentistry gear, IRAP, PRP, in-house laboratory, and stem cell culture laboratory. This is a great opportunity to join a dedicated and happy team and to be part of a growing practice at an important time in its development.
Karaka is a lovely rural community located just thirty minutes from Auckland’s central business district, and all its associated activities, restaurants, and cultural events. With nearby harbours, beaches, parks, and forests, the diversity of recreation is plentiful.
A vehicle is provided, and salary will be commensurate with experience.
To submit an application or to discuss the position in more detail, please contact Neil Houston by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at +6421998079. Applications should include a cover letter, a CV, and the names of three references.
Applicants must be eligible for veterinary licensure in New Zealand.
