SoBran, Inc. is seeking a Veterinary Technician for our facility in Boston, Massachusetts.
OVERVIEW: This position is for a Veterinary Technician for the Animal Care Project. It includes activities for the proper care of onsite animals, including the administration of treatments, animal health monitoring, and surveillance program. This person will be familiar with the day-to-day activities, employees, and concerns within the facilities; while effectively managing relationships with research staff and contract employees.
Essential Duties of the Veterinary Technician:
Understands and follows appropriate SOPs, safety procedures, and quality assurance standards
Performs health examinations identifying abnormal health and behavior, collects physiological data, and administers clinical treatments (Topical, PO, IM, SQ, IV, ID) as directed
Assists clinical veterinarians with examinations, procedures, and the administration of preventative medicine program, colony health monitoring, and treatments
Calculates doses for prescribed medications and anesthesia
Assists the veterinary and research staff with surgical preparations and procedures
Collects, preserves, and prepares samples and post-mortem specimens for evaluation, testing, or shipment
Provides training and guidance to investigative staff, animal care staff, and fellow veterinary technicians in animal procedures, aseptic technique surgical procedures, anesthetics, euthanasia, and other topics as required
Prepares, submits, and maintains required animal medical records, controlled substance logs, surgery logs, medical supply inventories, and other documentation as requested
Communicates regularly with investigators regarding animal conditions, treatment plans, and non-compliance
Reports any abnormal conditions of the animal facility or immediate vicinity to supervisory staff
Performs other duties under supervision as assigned
Work Schedule: Weekend work is required as scheduled; in addition to extra hours during emergency situations.
Associate’s degree or higher; Veterinary Technology degree or Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred
Must obtain ALAT certification within a year of hire; LAT certification preferred
2 years of industry Veterinary Technician experience in small and large animals
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Computer proficiency working with software such as MS Office products, Adobe Acrobat, and web browsers
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolonged period
