This position operates the primary poultry health diagnostic laboratory in the State and delivers veterinary diagnostic services to the lower Delmarva region. The Salisbury laboratory is A2LA accredited and a NAHLN and NPIP laboratory. This region comprises one of the most dense broiler production systems in the U.S. As pathologist, the incumbent is the primary poultry diagnostician for the Agency. The incumbent advises the State Veterinarian on issues of poultry health and emergency readiness and response. This position provides critical support to the Agency's mission of protecting animal and public health, promoting agriculture, ensuring consumer confidence, and protecting the environment.
Education: DVM or VMD recognized by the AVMA.
Experience: Five years of post-doctoral experience in veterinary medicine, three years of which must have been in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory specialty. Candidates may substitute possession of a M.S. or PhD. degree in pathology or microbiology for one to two years of the required specialized experience.
